WHAT IS IT?

For a baseball player, it is that certain place on a bat where he wants to make
contact with the ball each time he takes a swing.

For a guitar or bass player, it is that certain place where the microphone is
placed in front of the amplifier for maximum sound quality.

For a Christian, it is that consistent time and place to enjoy quiet time with God.

Jesus had a sweet spot for His time with God. Mark 1.35 (NIV) says, “Very early in the morning,
while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”

A solitary place. Think sweet spot.

You can have a sweet spot too. Here’s how:

1. Purpose to meet with God at the same time (if at all possible) every day.
Jesus found that “very early in the morning, while it was still dark” was the best time for His quiet time.
The best place for His quiet time was outside the house in a “solitary place.”

Maybe you’re a morning person? Or maybe nighttime is when you’re at your best? The key for you is
to give God the best part of your day.

Schedule that time as your quiet time with God. Mark it on your calendar or schedule it using your
smart phone app.

2. Start slowly.
Begin with five minutes each day and let it grow gradually. Make your goal 15 minutes each day. After
all, who doesn’t have 15 minutes each day? I bet you do if you stop and evaluate how you are using your
time. You will find that slice of time.

3. Establish your place to meet with God.
Mark 1.35 (see above) seems to indicate that Jesus had a special place where He went to meet with God.

How about you? Do you already have a sweet spot? Maybe it’s in the morning at your kitchen table?

Maybe it’s at night while sitting in your favorite chair? You get the idea. It should be a time when it’s quiet
and a place where you won’t be interrupted. You can read, think, or pray. You can even pray out loud if
you want. If you enjoy journaling, you can also journal[1]

Be as consistent as possible. Have the same sweet spot (time and place) every day.

How about it?

When is your best time of day?

Where is the best place for you?

What is your sweet spot for your daily quiet time with God?

Settle it. Set it. Your Heavenly Father is already there waiting for you.

Until next time,
Pastor Jimmy

[1]I would caution you about journaling. What you write is between you and God and no one else unless you choose to show a journal entry to someone. Even then, I would suggest you make a copy of that journal entry you want to share with someone instead of giving someone your journal.
